SUNDERLAND say Niall Huggins was handed a new contract to end any “ambiguity” over his future at the club.
Signed from Leeds on a free transfer in 2021, the 23-year-old defender has endured a wretched run of luck with injuries at the Stadium of Light.
He made just four appearances in his first two seasons and, after establishing himself as a regular starter in the first-half of the 2023-24 campaign, underwent surgery on a serious knee injury from which he is yet to return.
