SAMMIE PRAYING FOR LUCK OF THE IRISH…

SAMMIE Szmodics is hoping for a fresh start with the Republic of Ireland after being called up by interim boss John O’Shea.
The in-form Blackburn forward had scored 21 league goals ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, more than any other player in the Championship.
But the 28-year-old has suffered constant frustration in his efforts to represent the Republic, for whom he is eligible through his late grandmother.
First called up in May 2021, Szmodics was forced to withdraw from the squad with a shoulder injury.
