‘I’ve got that pure football buzz again’

When Karl Robinson was sacked by Oxford United in February, his first instinct was to seek another job.
“It’s like a compulsion,” explains the 43-year-old, who by that stage had clocked up 694 games in an unbroken 13-year managerial career with MK Dons, Charlton and the U’s.
“You think ‘I’ve got to get back in’. That’s what I’d always done before. But for the first time I really took a step back and I realised I was so far off it. So far. It’s just the congestion of thoughts in your head, and the tiredness. I didn’t need a job. I needed a break.”
