Neil Warnock agrees to continue managing Middlesbrough next season

Neil Warnock has committed his future to Boro by putting pen to paper on a new one-year deal.

The Championship promotion specialist has agreed to remain at the Riverside next season after successful talks with Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson.

The former Cardiff and QPR manager has told the club’s website that he wants to see Middlesbrough supporters in a ‘full Riverside’ before departing the Teeside club.

“It wasn’t really in doubt,” Warnock said.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here and achieved what I wanted to so far. 

“Steve is as big a supporter as he’s ever been, and he told me – you’ve not seen anything until you’ve seen a full Riverside.

“It’ll be great to have the fans back when we can – that’s what we all want and it can’t come quick enough. You can see a light at the end of the tunnel, but let’s be careful until we get there. 

Warnock, now 72, has Boro in 9th place and just five points off the playoffs – after taking over from current Bournemouth manager Jonathan Woodgate last June, with the club threatened with relegation to League One with eight games remaining.

“I think we can all look forward now – at my age you know you’re not staying on to make up the numbers and I thrive on success, and that’s what I’ll be striving for.”
