Mick Williams leaves Fratton Park board

Director who helped save club and return it to the fans resigns

Mick Williams, one of the seven-man board at Fratton Park, has resigned following a dispute about an executive decision implemented by the PST.

Williams was instrumental in rescuing the club from liquidation in 2013, having spent a year in administration and creating a plan to bring the club back into fold through fan ownership.

In a statement the businessman said: “I felt I needed to resign from the PST board on a matter of principle and that triggered an immediate removal from the PFC board.

“I’m still a fan, still a shareholder and supporter of the club and Trust. Sometimes you have to do something because of a matter of principle. You have unpleasant consequences,” said the outgoing director.

Despite his disagreement with a board decision, Williams revealed no sinister feelings towards the board, “I wish them all the best, I’m still a Pompey fan, still a shareholder and supporter of the club and Trust. The most important thing is we did it. We saved the club, we are stable and I’ll move on.”
