A Guide to Responsible Gambling

Responsible gambling comprises multiple social responsibilities set forthand enforced by the sports betting and gambling industry. The industry includes governments gaming control boards, vendors, and operators such as sports betting sites. The aims are to ensure that gambling operations is fair and to increase awareness of any pitfalls associated with betting, like gambling addiction.

As bettors, when we make a decision on where to register and make a deposit, it is important to pick a responsible regulated company with a gambling license we can trust. Responsible gambling aims to makes that decision easier by working with the most influential brands in the sports betting industry.

Gambling Addiction

Within the framework of responsible gaming is making people aware of the risk of gambling addiction. In the UK, multiple banks enable customers to trigger a feature that blocks gambling-related transactions on credit cards. In October of 2019, NatWest began to allow the scheduling of GamCare appointments at a number of its branches. Added to that, the UK set bet limits on fixed-odds betting terminals in a bid to fight against gambling addiction.

Criminal and Fraudulent Behaviour

Operators are obligated to establish anti-money laundering procedures and policies. This involves establishing effective processes of better knowing the customer, and reporting and tracking suspicious transactions.

Accurate and Prompt Customer Payments

Sports betting operators must see that all payment transactions to and from customer accounts adhere to documented and formal processes in a timely and accurate manner. Typically, operators ensure that any customer funds are maintained away from their accounts and that sufficient funds have been cleared to pay player winnings.

Fair gaming

Any gaming product should undergo thorough and random testing before they are considered to be fair. This testing also ensures they adhere to that game’s rules. This kind of testing is being carried out more and more by independent companies.

Customer Satisfaction

Betting customers should feel free to make complaints or comments to sports betting operators. They should also expect these sports betting operators to be in a position to adequately process complaints, either via a third-party or internally.

Information privacy

This refers to protecting the privacy of customer records and data against any unnecessary or unauthorised disclosure. Sports betting operators are obligated to establish policies to ensure measures and controls have been implemented to prevent any unauthorised use and disclosure of customer data. Customer data usually relates to such data as name, age, address, email address, and telephone number.

Codes of conduct

To ensure software suppliers, service providers, and operators implemented responsible gambling, codes of conduct were established by non-profits, regulators, and trade associations. These codes have changed and evolved as a reaction to the growth of trade and legal frameworks.

The industry has conceded that due to the sheer quantity of codes of conduct for responsible gaming, it’s wise to pause and reflect on what the industry needs. The European Committee for Standardisation is essentially establishing Responsible Remote Gambling Measures capable of protecting customers and ensuring that software suppliers, service providers, and remote gambling operators apply responsible gambling principles, which would only be adopted voluntarily. The aim is for those betting on Championship football and other such leagues to be protected by formal measures.

Responsible and ethical marketing

Sports betting operators should adhere to any relevant regulatory advertising codes of practice that ensure advertising is correct and doesn’t target vulnerable gamblers like players who refrained from gambling. Sports betting operators are also expected to request permission from customers before sending them anything that can be considered to be direct marketing.
