Luke Varney So Glad He’s Left Leeds United

LUKE VARNEY believes he can use his Leeds frustration to benefit Blackburn after his loan move to Ewood Park.

LUKE VARNEY believes he can use his Leeds frustration to benefit Blackburn after his loan move to Ewood Park.

The 31-year-old had been linked with a switch to Rovers throughout January but finally joined on loan in time to make his debut in the 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough.

The journeyman striker had been told he wouldn’t be getting a new contract at Elland Road for next season – and after a turbulent time in West Yorkshire of late he’s excited by his fresh start.

Varney was caught up in the chaos of Massimo Cellino’s impending takeover and manager Brian McDermott being told he would be sacked before he was later reinstated.

“Once it was made aware that I might not get a contract next year at Leeds, they stopped playing me and I understood I would have to move on,” said Varney.

“I can put all that behind me now and use that negative – it’s not anger – but there’s a lot inside that I need to get out and I’m hoping to do that on the pitch for Blackburn.

“I’ve had a lot of conversations with the (Blackburn) manager (Gary Bowyer) and I was happy to get it over the line.”
