Norwich City’s Ben Gibson out for the remainder of the season

On-loan Norwich City centre-back Ben Gibson has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Former England U21 international, Gibson, suffered ankle ligament damage during the latter stages of the Norwich’s 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers at Carrow Road.

Norwich City have released a club statement confirming that Gibson will be unavailable for selection for Daniel Farke’s side for the rest of season, as he is set to undergo surgery on his right ankle following scans earlier this week.

‘Ben Gibson will miss the remainder of the 2020/21 season following confirmation of an ankle ligament injury. Read the club statement.

‘Subsequent scans and a consultation with an independent specialist have since revealed damage to the ligaments in his right ankle.

‘Gibson will now undergo surgery before beginning a period of rehabilitation with club staff at Colney.’

The on-loan Burnley centre-back has made 29 appearances for the table topping Canaries this season – keeping 16 clean sheets in the process.

Should Norwich City achieve promotion back to the Premier League this season, Gibson will automatically make the switch from Burnley to Norwich permanent for a reported £8 million transfer fee.
