IT ALWAYS seemed a matter of when, not if, Wayne Rooney would be appointed as Derby County’s permanent manager.
Confirmation finally came on Friday and was a fitting reward for the efforts the former Manchester United and England star has made in trying to turn Derby fortunes around since the departure of Phillip Cocu.
Rooney has certainly made the Rams tougher to score against, but there remains plenty of work to be done at the other end.
