KIGHTLY CALLS IT A DAY AT 33

MICHAEL Kightly has announced his retirement from football. He is 33.
The winger had his contract at Southend terminated by mutual consent.
He made 425 appearances, 75 of those in the Premier League having played top-flight matches for Wolves, Stoke and Burnley.
“It’s been a great career but one that has been tough physically on my body, with a lot of operations, and it’s been tough mentally as well,” Kightly said.
“I thought about it in the summer and then I came back to pre-season and thought the time was right.”
