A massive crowd paid tribute to former owner Sir Doug Ellis.
On the pitch boyhood Villa fan Dean Smith got his reign as the club’s eighth manager in just over eight years off to a winning start.
But the same old frustrations are there for Smith, Villa dominating, but not getting enough goals and almost getting caught out because of it.
