Lee Bell was delighted with Crewe Alexandra’s opening-day performance against a Salford City side he expects to be challenging for promotion at the end of the season.
The Alex took an early lead through a Kadeem Harris own-goal when the winger was unlucky to deflect the ball into his own net during a goalmouth scramble.
Although Harris made amends with a fine equaliser after 15 minutes, Crewe collected the points with two goals by Conor Thomas at the end of a frantic first half.
