Grimsby thump Accrington to end losing run in style

Grimsby thump

Grimsby ended a four-game losing streak at home with a convincing 5-2 victory over Accrington at Blundell Park.

The home side went in front just two minutes in through former Accrington defender Harvey Rodgers, who fired past a crowd of players and into the net from just inside the area.

In the 11th minute, Grimsby doubled their lead. Denver Hume found Jayden Luker with a crossfield pass to convert from the edge of the box with the aid of a deflection.

It was three for the hosts in the 19th minute, Justin Obikwu profiting from a mistake at the back for Accrington.

Jordan Davies made it four for Grimsby just 33 minutes in after Jason Dadi Svanthorsson was fouled.

Alex Thompson restored some pride for Accrington in the 63rd minute but the hosts restored their four-goal advantage five minutes later, Sonny Aljofree turning the ball into his own net.

A mistake in possession from Grimsby gifted Accrington another consolation goal for Josh Woods in the 79th minute, but there was no dramatic comeback.
