Cycling fan Jonathan Mitchell has revealed how he crossed the Channel to watch the Tour de France this summer while waiting for a chance to get back in the footballing saddle.
Mitchell, 29, was in the unfamiliar position of going into pre-season without a club after being released at the end of a campaign in which he had made 44 appearances for Doncaster.
The ex-England under-21 international was even still unattached last month when he attended another major sporting event – England’s Rugby Union World Cup semi-final defeat to South Africa.
