Evans came on early for the injured Callum Connolly and made his presence felt five minutes before the break.
Barrie McKay played him in and the experienced striker coolly fired past Blues keeper Tomas Holy.
The victory lifted Joey Barton’s Cod Army to sixth, while Ipswich remained ninth.
COVENTRY leapt to the top of League One last Sunday with a 1-0 home win against fellow promotion-chasers Sunderland.
