MARK Bonner was bemused why his Cambridge side came up short after they went down to their first defeat in six.
Lewis Alessandra and Nick Anderton scored to secure the points for Carlisle at the Abbey Stadium.
Cambridge at least piled on the pressure late on with Reggie Lambe pulling a goal back.
It was Cambridge’s first defeat in Bonner’s current spell as interim boss, having replaced the sacked Colin Calderwood.
