SCOT Bennett’s first-half goal proved to be decisive as Newport County edged out Leicester City U21s in the quarter-finals.
The winner came in the 13th minute. The young Foxes failed to deal with Mickey Demetriou’s long throw and Bennett managed to drill the loose ball home.
Matty Dolan’s free-kick was tipped over, Bennett headed over and Josh Sheehan was denied from close range as the Exiles looked for a second before the break.
Leicester improved after the interval, but couldn’t find an equaliser that would have forced the tie to penalties.
