Match Verdict

TWO sides with contrasting targets met at Roots Hall and the result went the way the table suggested.
The Shrimpers produced an improved performance with Sol Campbell in charge for the first time. But it was not enough to end their poor run of results which sees them struggling for survival. Southend did enjoy spells of pressure and possession. However, they found it tough to create clear-cut chances and Town goalkeeper Will Norris was untested for much of the afternoon.
