Shrimpers stymied by dismal surface

SOUTHEND manager Chris Powell felt the poor Roots Hall pitch played a huge part in the Shrimpers’ goalless draw against Doncaster Rovers.
The shocking surface resulted in a drab encounter short of excitement.
And Powell admitted it was tough for his players to deal with the tricky conditions.
“We’ve got footballers out there and when the pitch has held up we’ve shown our quality but it’s very difficult to play on,” said Powell.
