Shrimpers’ nine-game hell comes to an end

SOUTHEND manager Phil Brown was full of smiles after seeing the Shrimpers end their nine-match winless streak at Fleetwood. Southend had not triumphed since beating Blackburn Rovers on the opening day of the season but Brown, whose team took full advantage of a red card shown to Aiden O’Neill after just 31 minutes, now wants the win to kick start their season.
“In a way, it’s disappointing that it’s taken a red card for us to get the result we deserve but I thought we played ever so well,” said Brown.
