Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones described his team’s Championship return as “perfect” after new signing Harvey Knibbs hit an added-time winner to defeat Watford.
The 26-year-old had not played a minute in pre-season because of his long-winded transfer from Reading.
But the attacking midfielder came off the bench and slammed home a close-range clincher in the 94th minute as the Addicks marked their return to England’s second tier in style after a five-year wait.
