Mark Hudson signs new Huddersfield contract

Town captain Mark Hudson has put pen to paper on a new three year contract with the club.

It is expected that the 34-year-old will begin to integrate into the club’s coaching department whilst continuing to play a role on the pitch.

Hudson began his career with Fulham before joining Crystal Palace in 2008. During his four years at Selhurst Park the center back became an ever present in the Palace back line and was eventually given the captain’s armband by then manager .

Hudson somewhat controversially moved to South London rivals Athletic in 2009 before joining a year later.

The Guildford-born defender was given the captains armband once again at Cardiff and he lifted the Championship trophy for the in 2013.

Since moving to Huddersfield in 2014, Hudson has become a real fans favourite at the John Smiths Stadium and of his contract extension is likely to be met with a warm reaction among  supporters.

‘s Head Coach  told the club’s official website, “I’m unbelievably happy that Mark Hudson will be a part of my squad for the next seasons.

“I have said before that the whole squad accepted the big changes I made when I arrived in November and Mark was a big reason for that. As Captain – and one of the biggest influences in the dressing room – he set a great example, as he understood that the changes we made will make his career longer.

“It is a great move for the Club to keep him here as a coach in the long term, but I believe he still has a big part to play on the pitch for us as we look to make the next steps in our development. Mark’s performances during my time here have been good and he is an important player in a squad that is generally young and still learning.

“He is a 100% professional and has a winning mentality; he has been a winner of the Championship just a few years ago. This is the type of character that we need in our squad.”

Huddersfield have already secured their Championship status for next season but will be hoping to finish the year with a bit of momentum when they face at Ashton Gate on Saturday.
