Match Preview: Coventry City v Hull City (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Hull City travel to Coventry City on late Wednesday in the Championship.

The visitors come into the game on the back of a draw in their last match, having tied with Watford 0-0 away.

The Sky Blues, meanwhile, lost their last match, 3-0 against Birmingham City.

With 66 goals in 42 games so far this season, Coventry are scoring more than average in the league with 1.6 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 52 goals at a rate of 1.2 per game.

Hull are also above average scorers, with 1.4 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.3. They have conceded 1.3 goals per game.

In Haji Wright, Coventry City have one of the league’s most on-form strikers so far this season. He has notched 15 goals in 40 appearances, to sit fifth in the scoring charts.

His goal rate of one every 177 minutes is quicker than that of Jaden Philogene, Hull City’s top scorer with a goal every 231 minutes, and a total of 11 goals in 29 games.

The Tigers are seventh in the table after 43 games, of which they have won 18 and drawn 12, earning 66 points.

The Sky Blues are one place behind the visitors in eighth, with 17 wins and 12 draws putting them on 63 points.

In the last five years, Coventry and Hull have played each other on five occasions. Coventry won one of them, Hull two, and they drew twice.

On average, the Sky Blues scored 1.0 goal and the Tigers 1.4 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on September 15, when they played out a 1-1 draw.

The home team are in mixed form in the Championship, with three wins and three losses from their last six games.

With two wins and two draws over that period, Hull’s form is slightly worse – they have taken eight points from 18, compared to Coventry’s nine.

Wednesday’s match will be refereed by Leigh Doughty, who has taken charge of 13 Championship games so far this season, issuing one red card and booking 50 players. He has not awarded any penalties.

The last Coventry game Doughty refereed was a 2-1 home loss to Cardiff City on April 1. His last Hull match was their 2-1 win away at Rotherham United on February 13.
