Match Preview: West Bromwich Albion v Coventry City (Friday, 8pm)

West Bromwich Albion host Coventry City on Friday at the Hawthorns in the Championship.

In their last league match, on Saturday, West Bromwich drew with Hull City 1-1 away, with their goal scored by Darnell Furlong.

Coventry lost, 3-0 at home against Preston North End on February 23.

In Alex Palmer, West Bromwich can rely on one of the league’s safest pair of hands. He has kept 15 clean sheets in his 34 appearances this season, and no ‘keeper has prevented the opposition scoring more often in the Championship.

In Coventry’s net, Bradley Collins has six clean sheets in 17 games. He has conceded a goal every 102 minutes, only slightly more often than the 106 minutes between goals for Alex Palmer.

With 51 goals in 34 games so far this season, City are scoring more than average in the league with 1.5 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 40 goals at a rate of 1.2 per game.

Albion, meanwhile, are average scorers, with 1.4 goals per game. They have conceded 0.9 goals per game.

The Baggies are fifth in the table after 34 games, of which they have won 16 and drawn eight, earning 56 points.

The Sky Blues are four places behind the home team in ninth, with 13 wins and 12 draws putting them on 51 points.

In the last five years, West Bromwich and Coventry have played each other on five occasions. West Bromwich won three of them, Coventry one, and they drew once.

On average, the Baggies scored 1.0 goal and the Sky Blues 0.4 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on October 30, when West Bromwich won 2-0 away.

West Bromwich are in reasonable form in the Championship, with three wins and two draws from their last six games.

With two wins and two draws over that period, the visitors’ form is worse – they have taken eight points from 18, compared to West Bromwich’s 11.
