Martin pays for Potters’ dismal displays

Stoke City sacked technical director Ricky Martin to quell growing supporter unrest at the bet365 Stadium.
Ex-West Ham academy boss Martin was appointed in November 2022, two months after the arrival of manager Alex Neil from Sunderland.
After a disappointing 16th-place finish last term, the pair spent last summer reforming the club’s recruitment strategy, with a total of 19 players signed either permanently or on loan.
Results were poor, however, and Neil was replaced by former Plymouth boss Steven Schumacher in December.
