Neil enjoys dream Sunderland return
Alex Neil savoured a sensational return to Sunderland as his Stoke troops powered to a 5-1 win in the north-east.
Neil made waves when he ditched the Black Cats, who he guided to promotion from League One last term, to take charge of the Potters in August.
He knew he would be in for a hot reception at the Stadium of Light yesterday, but had the last laugh as Stoke romped to victory with Tyrese Campbell and Dwight Gayle both bagging doubles.
Neil said: “I enjoyed winning, but that is for the people who understand the dynamics of the situation because I am not the bad guy.”
Third-placed Middlesbrough bashed Reading 5-0.
