CREWE have taken former loanee Liam Smith and Lucas Dawson on trial.
Midfielder Smith, 22, who is on the books of Newcastle United, spent a brief spell with Alex a couple of years ago, but an ankle injury prevented him from appearing for the Railwaymen.
He has yet to feature for the Magpies’ first team, but has played for their under-21s in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Midfielder Dawson, 24, is a former Stoke trainee, who has enjoyed spells at Nuneaton, Telford and Chester, before being shown the door by the latter this summer.
