IPSWICH legend Tommy Smith says he plans to bring his family back to the town when his playing days are finished.
The New Zealand defender, 27, has left after more than ten years at Portman Road to join MLS side Colorado Rapids.
Smith cited a lack of first-team chances as the reason but admits saying goodbye wasn’t easy. He said: “Tears were flowing, but I hope to be back at the club in some capacity in future years.
“You can never be sure but, when my football career is over, my wife and I intend to return to Ipswich and make it our home again.”
