National League South promotion odds: Who’s in charge of epic title race?

UK Casinos

As we hit the business end of the season, title races are heating up. But none are as wide open as the National League South. With six teams separated by just six points, the fight for promotion is set to go down to the wire.

And at FIRST.com, where you can get the best sports betting tips and find trusted sports betting sites, we’re here to break down the latest National League South title odds.

Worthing – 8/11 for the National League South title (pre-season odds: 14/1)

I’ve always been a firm believer in club’s coming back stronger after play-off heartbreak. Worthing finished third last season and suffered agony at home in the final to Braintree, but they’ve used that pain as fuel.

Chris Agutter’s men have been relentless this year, sitting four points clear with eight games to play, plus a game in hand. But it’s their latest run that’s really propelled them to title favourites, winning 11 of their last 14.

The next three games? All against bottom-half opposition. If they keep this momentum, they could have the title all-but wrapped up before their tougher fixtures against Truro, Eastbourne, and Dorking.

If you’re looking for value, that ship has probably sailed. But if you’re after a safe bet, Worthing are the team to back.

Truro – 13/2 for the National League South title (pre-season odds: 66/1)

From rank outsiders to genuine contenders, Truro’s rise this season has been remarkable. At 66/1 pre-season, they were the biggest odds for the title. Now? They’re just four points off the top and head into the final stages with the best form in the league over the last 10 games (23 points from 30).

Tyler Harvey has been instrumental in their title push, netting eight in his last six including three consecutive braces. They’re peaking at the right time, and they still have a showdown with Worthing to come.

The last time they met, Truro ran riot in a 5-0 demolition. A repeat of that and this race is blown wide open. While they’re not the 66/1 they were seven months ago, you’re still getting great value at 13/2.

Boreham Wood – 7/1 for the National League South title (pre-season odds: 15/2)

I had a piece of Boreham Wood at 15/2 pre-season, but right now? I wouldn’t touch them. They’ve been a rollercoaster to follow all season. They boast the best goal difference in the league, but have suffered more defeats than any other side in the top seven (10).

They looked the real deal after an 11-game unbeaten run from November to January, but four defeats in five – including a humbling loss to Worthing – derailed any momentum.

Kwesi Appiah leads the league in goals, but his form has dipped at the worst possible time with just one in his last six. With Dorking and Maidstone up next, their title hopes look bleak. Playoffs are more likely.

Eastbourne – 8/1 for the National League South title (pre-season odds: 40/1)

What a turnaround for Adam Murray’s Eastbourne. A year ago they were battling relegation, now they’re looking good for at least a play-off spot and sit just five points off the top.

Home form has been crucial with 41 of their 72 points coming at Priory Lane, the second-best record in the division. And with four of their last seven games on home soil (including a potential title decided against Worthing), they’re in a great position to make a charge.

Add in George Alexander’s form – nine goals in his last six including two hat-tricks – and this is a team that could cause serious problems in the run-in. They’re a very tempting 8/1 shout.

Dorking – 10/1 for the National League South title (pre-season odds: 4/1)

Dorking started the campaign as the bookies’ favourites and were expected to dominate the division. Instead, they’ve struggled to find any real rhythm, blowing hot and cold all season.

They might’ve lost just once in 12 games, but crucially they’ve only won one of their last five. That lack of cutting-edge in attack has cost them dearly, and at six points off the pace, time is running out for Marc White’s side.

Boreham Wood and Eastbourne are up next, two huge games that could propel them back into the mix. But even if they beat Worthing in their penultimate match, it’s likely to come too late. At 10/1, I just don’t see the value.

Torquay – 12/1 for the National League South title (pre-season odds: 50/1)

Torquay flirted with relegation last season, but they turned things around in style. They started the new campaign with five wins from their first seven and have been tough to beat all year.

They’ve lost just six games, the fewest in the league. But their Achilles’ heel has been their failure to kill off games. With 14 draws – the second-most in the division – they’ve let too many leads slip.

The good news? Their run-in is the easiest of any of their rivals. Only one of their final six games is against a top-six side in Truro. At 12/1, they’re a serious dark horse.
