Man United 2-2 Liverpool: Premier League Clash Recap – Red Devils Spoil Rivals’ Title Aspirations

The thrilling match that came from Manchester United’s latest visit to Liverpool took plenty of twists and trunks. The incredibly exciting match delivered a 2-2 draw that put a dent in the Red’s Premier League title hopes. With that said, let’s take an in-depth look at what really happened on the field between these two rivals.

Manchester United vs Liverpool Match Recap

As soon as the game started the Reds dominated the Red Devils in the first half of the game. During this period they took all 15 of the game’s shot attempts, which made the first half very engaging. They led through a sliding Diaz finish and the match looked quite grim for the opposition. However, Fernandes and Mainoo scored early on into the much-improved second half.  What looked like a game that could have been over well before halftime turned out to be a thrilling viewing experience. So much so that the Red Devils were booed off the pitch when down 1-0.

Klopp’s attack was very engaging but could only manage one goal as Onana made a number of saves in the final stretch of the first half. This totaled with the Reds cueing up 15 shots and 1.566 expected goals compared to nothing for the Red Devils. With that Klopp has been able to overcome his injuries thanks to his well performing finishers. The young defender Bradley also had a moment of stardom following his last performance. However, this time this was not the best decision as Kelleher’s failure to secure a bail led to the Red Devils gaining an advantage.

These errors are nothing new and are a normal part of the sport, although it did mark a turning point in the match. Klopp trusted the young players because of the frontline and with Konate and Gomez on the bench. This philosophy had them first on the table and worked all other times but Sunday.

Manchester United vs Liverpool Predictions And Odds

Liverpool could only manage a Mohamed Salah penalty in dropping points for the third time this year. After the loss to Arsenal and this draw, Liverpool’s smooth sailing has had a significant impact on their standing. With just one loss and draw in their last 12 games across all competitions they have dropped behind Arsenal atop the Premier League table as both teams have 71 points. This is of course one more than Manchester City currently has.

Manchester United feels no small amount of relief after the Draw away to Brentford followed by the devastating 4-3 defeat to Chelsea. With this match draw they now sit at sixth place with a total of 49 points. This is just eight points off fifth and 11 out of the top four, while many fans are not ecstatic at this there is some time to possibly improve. With that said going into the game the Manchester United vs Liverpool money line was set at:

  • Manchester United +380
  • Draw +340
  • Liverpool -165

Manchester United vs Liverpool Player Ratings

The six-save day for Andre Onana played no small part in the ratings while Casmiro and Mainoo played the game amazingly. Meanwhile, Fernandes took the MVP thanks to his incredible performance and freedom to make the center of the park an advantage for the Red Devils. Liverpool will look to Quansah’s mistake and Kelleher’s unfortunate position as the reason the game went foul and it is reflected in their ratings. Overall the ratings fit the predicted outcome with some unfortunate yellow cards during the course of the game.

Conclusion

Manchester United vs Liverpool was a match where both teams showcased impressive performances despite the draw. Liverpool had a strong first half however this was lost as MU bounced back in the second half. Despite Liverpool’s attacking efforts including 16 total shots, they couldn’t secure the victory. In the end, fans got to witness an incredibly exciting game that easily could have gone both ways.

The match was important for both teams in terms of ladder standings in the Premier League. This result does not affect the odds of future games and has no large implications for league and sports betting. However, it does affect fantasy football fans as outstanding performances from Onana, Casmiro, Mainoo, and Fernandes have surely shifted some brackets.
