AMOND LEAVES IT LATE AS EXILES TRIUMPH

NEWPORT County retained top spot thanks to Padraig Amond’s last-gasp winner against Colchester.
Scott Twine’s powerful strike early in the second half looked as though it would prove decisive for the Exiles, but Jevani Brown pounced on a rebound to pull the U’s level in the 89th minute. However, Amond tapped home in the first minute of injury time to seal three precious points.
Cambridge stayed two points behind Newport following a 2-0 victory at Walsall, who saw League Two’s last unbeaten record go up in smoke.
