Ince Axed As Blackpool Boss

By Craig Chisnall

PAUL INCE has been shown the door as Blackpool boss after chairman Karl Oyston’s patience finally snapped.

The former England international had been coming under increasing pressure after a run of nine defeats in ten matches, the latest of which was a depressing 2-0 defeat to bottom side Barnsley on Saturday.

The 46-year-old was thought to have been given a stay of execution after lengthy talks with his chairman on Sunday but was given the news on Tuesday morning with captain Barry Ferguson set to be appointed as player-manager in a caretaker capacity.

Ince, who served a five-match stadium ban for his conduct towards an official at Bournemouth, was appointed last February after Michael Appleton resigned to take over at local rivals Blackburn Rovers.

He managed to guide the Seasiders to safety last term and began this season brightly but their recent run and tactics had fans calling for his head and Ince has been sacked along with his assistant Alex Rae and coach Steve Thompson.
