Crawley Town have completed the signing of young full-back Josh Doherty on a one-year deal with the option for a further year.

The 21-year-old came through the Watford academy, where we worked under current Reds boss Harry Kewell. He made his debut for the Hornets against Huddersfield in 2014, and signed his first professional contract 11 days later.

A Northern Ireland youth international at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, Doherty moved on to Leyton Orient for a year in 2016. During that time he spent a month on loan at Altrincham.

Kewell was thrilled with the deal, telling the Reds’ official website: “We’re really happy to have Harry on board. He’s someone I know well from my time at Watford, he’s young, hungry and has both international and domestic experience – so he’s a good addition to our squad.”

Crawley started the season off poorly but have won back-to-back games to leave them 16th in the League Two table. Kewell has recruited the likes of Mark Randall, Panutche Camara, Dannie Bulman and Moussa Sanoh to his squad this summer.
