Middlesbrough Sack Tony Mowbray

MARK VENUS has taken temporary charge of Middlesbrough following the departure of Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray was sacked on Monday, almost three years to the day since his appointment in 2010.

He enjoyed a couple of decent seasons at the helm – leading Boro to 12th and seventh in the Championship – before an underwhelming 2012/13 which saw the club finish 16th.

And that is where the Teeside club currently find themselves after winning just two of their 12 games this term.

That poor form has resulted in Mowbray being relieved of his duties, with former Stoke City boss Tony Pulis and ex-Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill early favourites to success him at the Riverside.

A statement on the club’s official website said: “The club would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Tony Mowbray for all of his substantial efforts, dedication and integrity.

“He leaves with the very best wishes of all at the club.”
