Paul Lambert leaves Ipswich by “mutual consent”

Paul Lambert has departed Portman Road following the Tractor Boys’ 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers.

Ipswich Town and manager Paul Lambert have mutually agreed to part ways, bringing an end to two and a half years at the helm for the Scot.

Assistant manager, Stuart Taylor, has also departed the East Anglian club.

Ipswich Chairman Marcus Evans, has stated the decision on Lambert’s future came after “significant differences of opinion as to the order of immediate priorities,” following talks between the two over the past week.

“I would like to put on record my sincere thanks to Paul and Stuart for their services to Ipswich Town over the last two and a half years,” said Evans.

“I have enjoyed a healthy working relationship with Paul in our time together and he has brought a lot of positive aspects to the Club.

“It has, however, become clear after holding discussions over the last few days that there are significant differences of opinion as to the order of immediate priorities and we agreed it was best for us to part company. I would like to wish both Paul and Stuart the best in the future.”

The former Norwich, and Stoke manager’s reign began during the 2018/19 season with Lambert taking over from Paul Hurst with the club bottom of the Championship after 14 games.

Lambert, 51, could not save the club from relegation but stayed on as manager, achieving a disappointing 11th place finish the following season in League One. Ipswich currently stand eighth in League One, and two points off the playoff places at this present moment.

The frontrunner for the vacant manager’s role at Portman Road is ex-Wigan boss Paul Cook, who has been sought-after by several Championship and League One clubs, following Wigan’s relegation from the Championship last season – after the club went into administration.

U21’s coach Matt Gill will take charge of the first team for their away fixture against Accrington Stanley tonight.
