Brian McDermott returns to Reading

have confirmed the appointment of Brian McDermott as their new manager.

The 54-year old spent three seasons as Reading manager and successfully guided the to the 2012 title. He left the club in March 2013 when they were four points adrift of safety in the drop zone.

Following his departure from Reading, McDermott spent just over a year in charge of and then joined the scouting network at in October 2014.

Reading sacked former manager Steve Clarke at the beginning of December after he only won one of his last eight games at the club. Clarke had also caused controversy by meeting with over the vacant managerial position at the West London club.

In a press conference confirming McDermott's appointment Reading chairman John Madejski said, “I'm proud we've got Brian back. It's the best Christmas present any of us could have had.”

Reading are currently sitting in 13th place in the Championship table and face at the Madejski Stadium on Sunday.
