Newport County defender Ryan Inniss has been suspended for five matches by following his red card in the Trophy fixture against United under-21s last week.

Inniss was accused of biting West Ham academy player Reece Hannam in the 90th minute of ‘s 5-4 defeat at Rodney Parade.

The punishment exceeds the standard suspension of three matches for incidents of violent conduct with the concluding:

“The Members of the Commission ordered that the Standard Punishment of a three-match suspension in this instance be set aside and replaced with a five-match suspension”.

Inniss was only making his second appearance for the club but will now be absent until next month’s fixture against on October 8.

The 24-year-old defender is on loan from and may face an uphill battle to reinstate himself in the first team picture following this setback.

After the game Newport Manager Michael Flynn insisted, “If he has (bitten an opponent) it’s inexcusable and I won’t be fighting his corner”.

Having spoken to the defender, decided to the violent conduct charge but were unsuccessful.

Inniss will miss League Two fixtures against Northampton Town, Macclesfield Town, Exeter City, Swindon Town and Carlisle United.
