Buy-out clauses sensible as clubs re-shape

Leeds have taken a bit of criticism for allowing their players to sign contracts with relegation buy-out clauses.

Tyler Adams, Jack Harrison and a number of others were able to leave the club for a set fee, leaving Leeds powerless to prevent the exodus and unable to act in the transfer market until they knew who was leaving.

Personally, I’m not surprised that nobody activated those clauses until near the end of the window. From experience, I think clubs look at relegated players and think ‘they got relegated for a reason’.
