Steve Evans’ remarkable longevity can largely be ascribed to his capacity for spotting talent and ability to build winning teams. But the 61-year-old also knows when to bail out at the right time.
In April 2012, he turned his back on a Crawley team that was just a month away from promotion to League One, recognising the higher ceiling offered by a Rotherham side primed to surge out of the basement division.

Three-and-a-half years later, with the Millers on the cusp of an historically awful Championship campaign, Evans voluntarily joined the dole queue.
