That the financial chasm between Championship and Premier League is vast and widening should not be questioned.
Whilst parachute payments exist and perpetually increase, it will ever be thus. Nevertheless, the sight of Burnley, Luton and Sheffield United propping up the Premier League is no cause for hand-wringing introspection.
Last season’s promoted trio finished the week without a win to their names, which is obviously embarrassing for the EFL. So, too, the pulverising meted out by Newcastle as United were humiliated 8-0 at Bramall Lane.
