It’s high time the National League had an extra place

Buried in Rick Parry’s extensive musings on the football regulator and possible Carabao Cup reform was a commitment to revisit the issue of granting an extra promotion place to the National League.
It is long overdue and should be a no-brainer. Yes, there are clubs on the breadline in League Two whose existence would be imperilled by relegation to Non-League. But that should not detract from the fact the EFL would be greatly enhanced by ambitious, powerful and well-run clubs emerging from the National League.
