GARETH Southgate has predictably taken a beating after England went six games without a win for the first time since 1993. Whether it’s his mistrust of Trent Alexander-Arnold, his faith in Harry Maguire or his persistence with three at the back, a man who briefly walked on water is now sinking without trace.
Some of the stick is justified, of course. Irrespective of Maguire’s form, it makes little sense to start anyone who can’t get a game for their club.
