To have taken the fight for Championship survival to the final day is an achievement to rank alongside any promotion and is why, for my money, Gareth Ainsworth is manager of the year.
It may sound absurd to sing the praises of a man whose team were locked in the basement all season. In fact, the Chairboys didn’t spend a single second outside of the relegation zone.
