Kevin Keen leaves Colchester United

have confirmed that manager Kevin Keen has left the club with immediate effect.

The 49-year-old took over at the Essex club in December but could not prevent their relegation to , which was confirmed after Saturday’s loss to Albion.

A statement on official website read  “After a meeting with the owner, Robbie Cowling over the future direction of the club, Kevin Keen has decided to leave United with immediate effect.

“Kevin has worked tirelessly to try and turn around the fortunes of the club this season.
“We wish Kevin all the best in his future career.”

Keen was part of the backroom staff at for nine years and was placed in caretaker charge of the club three times during this period.

After leaving the Hammers in 2011, Keen had spells coaching at , and Reading before getting his first full time managerial position with Colchester.

The U’s have confirmed that David Wright will take charge for the final two games of the season against and .
