Charlie Savage scored against his father’s team as Reading eased into the second round of the FA Cup with a 5-0 rout of Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium.
This all-League One tie proved one of the most one-sided of the day, with Posh boss Robbie Savage watching in horror as the visitors tore his side apart.
Royals boss Leam Richardson praised his players for their rampant attacking display.
Savage was one of the goalscorers for Reading in what was their biggest ever away win in the competition.

Pleased
Richardson said: “That’s three times now we’ve scored five goals this season.
“That’s something that we work on, the connections that we want to be better at.
“I thought on Wednesday night (at Oxford) we weren’t as good in the transition of possession, but tonight we were, so huge credit to the players.
“I’m really pleased.
“I think there were some really good individual performances, collectively we were excellent in parts and we’re really pleased to progress to the next round.
“The players will take the credit for it and the plaudits for it.”

Match action
Reading went ahead after 26 minutes as slick passing led to Andy Rinomhota playing in Daniel Kyerewaa, who found the bottom corner via a deflection.
The Royals doubled their lead in the 34th minute when a brilliant cross from left-back Haydon Roberts was met by a diving header from top scorer Jack Marriott.
It was effectively game over in first-half stoppage time as Savage deepened his father’s misery when he took possession after the ball ran off Marriott, with his deflected effort finding the top corner.
Jamie Reid added a fourth for the visitors in the 72nd minute when Paudie O’Connor nodded Savage’s free-kick into his path for him to lift over Peterborough goalkeeper Alex Bass.
Reading weren’t finished yet as they struck yet again four minutes later when Liam Fraser’s pass put Reid clean through to score his second.

Lack of belief
Peterborough boss Savage said: “We played four midfield players and didn’t win a second ball, they ran the midfield and they ran every department.
“There was a lack of belief – that was the worst that they’ve played under us, as a management group.
“We changed shape, we worked on it all week, it didn’t work, the subs didn’t make an impact and it was a real bad day at the office.
“They’re a great group, they need belief, but you have to go out over that white line and show everybody on the TV and it was miles off it.”
