Delighted Mick Seal is quids in after winning Fantasy Football League – while daughter Livy made it a memorable family double with her triumph in our sister competition, Fantasy Non-League.

Southend United fan Mick claimed the top prize of £300 after coming out on top with 22,028 points, a whopping 685 ahead of second-placed Goalbound.

Among his selections were Championship winners Coventry City, League One runners-up Cardiff City, his Super Joker, and League Two runners-up MK Dons.

“Coventry were my first pick,” said Mick, who also benefited from bringing in substitutes Ipswich Town and York City.

“They had a good end to the season before and I saw who’d they brought in. The manager (Frank Lampard) was a big part as well.”

Although he has been Weymouth-based for almost 60 years, Mick has stuck with Southend.

“I grew up in Southend and my father took me to a few games,” said the 70-year-old, a former merchant seaman and carpenter.

“Nowadays I go to see them when they’re in the south-west.

“I was hopeful of winning the competition when I had a big lead going into the final few weeks. I really enjoy it and enter every season.”

Impressive

He explained that his unusual team name, NB Pak RH, was in honour of the North Bank singing section at Southend’s Roots Hall ground.

Daughter Livy was just as impressive in Fantasy Non-League.

She bagged the bumper £1,000 first prize after her team, Olivia Grace, racked up 30,532 points over the season to finish 259 points ahead of second-placed NannyCakes.

Among the teams she correctly tipped to succeed were AFC Fylde in National League North, Harborough Town in Southern Premier Central and Walton & Hersham in Southern Premier South.

In the National League, she went for play-off winners Rochdale, Forest Green Rovers and, perhaps not surprisingly given her allegiances, Southend.

However, she did also have York, who claimed the title on the last day, as one of her substitutes.

Success

While Southend fell in the play-offs, they did contribute to her success by picking up 250 points for winning the FA Trophy.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Livy, a college student studying animal welfare. “I knew towards the end that I was in with a chance of winning, but it was still a surprise.

“I’m not sure yet what I’m going to do with the prize money. It’s fantastic to have won.”

The family also went close to claiming another prize.

Mick entered a team in Fantasy Football League on behalf of their dog Shrimp, but ‘The Manic Shrimphound’ had to settle for fourth place!
