IT was fitting that Celtic lost the Scottish League Cup final on the same weekend that Darrell Clarke lost his job at Bristol Rovers.
The two clubs may operate in different strata, but they both fell into the same trap of thinking an old cult hero would magically make their problems disappear.
Just like Martin O’Neill’s brief return to Glasgow, Clarke’s appointment last May was intended to recall former glories and signal that the good times were coming back.
