Flemming goal wins the derby
DELIGHTED Burnley boss Scott Parker hailed his side’s defensive resilience after Zian Flemming’s second half goal proved enough to beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 in the East Lancashire derby.
The Clarets have conceded a measly nine goals in 26 games this term and now trail leaders Leeds – who were pegged back by Hull late on in a 3-3 draw – by a single point.
“What this team has done defensively this year has been nothing short of sensational,” said Parker. “It’s the bedrock of any team. This team has traits of one which wants to protect their goal. It is a badge of honour for us.”
Sheffield United, in third, are also just a point behind Leeds after a 2-1 win at Watford, while Mark Robins kicked off his Stoke reign with a goalless draw against Plymouth.
