WE ALL know that having a big-name reputation as a player can open the door to a job in management.
But it’s a double-edged sword because your management career is always going to be judged against your playing career and you’re always going to face that extra level of scrutiny.
Wayne Rooney is a prime example. He got the job at Birmingham off the back of John Eustace being successful and people were questioning that decision before he’d even taken a training session. That’s a tough start for anyone, and no fault of his own.
