Match Preview: Hull City v Ipswich Town (Saturday, 8pm)

Hull City face Ipswich Town on Saturday seeking to protect their long unbeaten run in the Championship.

The Tigers are unbeaten in five, with three wins and two draws, ahead of the 8pm kick-off.

They face an Ipswich team who have won two and drawn two over the same number of games.

With 85 goals in 43 games so far this season, Ipswich are the league’s joint-second-highest scorers with 2.0 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 53 goals at a rate of 1.2 per game.

Hull are also above average scorers, with 1.5 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.3. They have conceded 1.3 goals per game.

Town are third in the table after 43 games, of which they have won 26 and drawn 11, earning 89 points.

City are four places behind the Blues in seventh, with 19 wins and 12 draws putting them on 69 points.

In the last 10 years, Hull and Ipswich have played each other on nine occasions. Hull won six of them, Ipswich two, and they drew once.

On average, the Tigers scored 1.8 goals and the Blues 0.7 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on October 3, when Ipswich won 3-0 at home.

In Václav Hladký, the visitors can rely on one of the league’s safest pair of hands. He has kept 14 clean sheets in his 43 appearances this season, and only two other ‘keepers – Leeds United’s Illan Meslier and West Bromwich Albion’s Alex Palmer – have been able to prevent the opposition scoring on more occasions in the Championship.

In the Tigers’ net, Ryan Allsop has 10 clean sheets in 35 games. He has conceded a goal every 83 minutes, only slightly more often than the 84 minutes between goals for Hladký.

Hull’s last match was on Wednesday, a 3-2 win against Coventry City, with Fabio Carvalho, Jaden Philogene and Noah Ohio getting the goals for the Tigers.

Ipswich drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough last time out, on April 13, with Massimo Luongo on the scoresheet.
